One of the best things you can do for your wardrobe is to invest in sustainably-crafted clothes. Not only are ethically sourced pieces better for the environment, but they’re made to last, meaning you’ll be able to wear your favorite pieces for years to come.
NK IMODE has always put ethical practices first. We strive to find innovative ways to craft sustainable pieces that look and feel fabulous. Our new Kacey collection features garments made with 50% LENZING™ Lyocell and 50% Bemberg™ Cupro just as luxurious as our signature silk pieces, giving you another option for sustainable luxury. Read on to learn more about lyocell and cupro fabrics, the difference this fabric makes, and explore our Kacey collection.
What Does Lyocell and Cupro Fabric Feel Like?
Lyocell and cupro fabrics are made from very small fibres, allowing it to be woven in various textures. However, the lyocell and cupro fabric that NK IMODE uses is very soft. While it has a more matte appearance than silks, it does have the same silky feeling. This soft feeling on the skin allows for a luxurious experience every time you slip into the garment.
This fabric is also exceptionally soothing for the skin; lyocell and cupro are hypoallergenic, making it ideal for those with sensitive skin or allergies. In addition, the small fibres add texture to the fabric, bringing it a natural and sophisticated look alongside the silky-smooth feeling.
Is Lyocell & Cupro Fabric Breathable?
The tight weave of this fabric makes it very breathable. The breathable qualities make it easy for lyocell and cupro garments to wick sweat away from the body. This makes the Kacey collection ideal for warm days, travelling, and even maintaining the best possible temperature while sleeping.
Because this fabric is so breathable, it won’t absorb sweat or moisture. This means you can wash lyocell and cupro garments less frequently than you would if they were made with linen or cotton. It also allows you to preserve the water you would be using to wash your garment more frequently.
Is Lyocell and Cupro Fabric Sustainable?
Yes, 50% LENZING™ Lyocell and 50% Bemberg™ Cupro is a sustainable fabric. Lyocell is made with wood – typically, it is crafted from the pulp of eucalyptus trees. Eucalyptus trees need less farmland to grow and are abundant in their homeland of Australia, meaning that there is very little impact on the environment in using these trees to create fabric.
Cupro is a plant-based fabric that is recycled from cotton production, which adds to that super soft feeling. However, since it is a by-product of cotton production, it is actually a recycled material and doesn’t create any excess waste in its creation.
As with all NK IMODE garments, 50% LENZING™ Lyocell and 50% Bemberg™ Cupro is an OEKO-TEX Certified fabric. This means that it is made without chemicals and toxins that harm both your body and the environment. LENZING fabrics are always biodegradable, compostable, and produced with social responsibility in mind – you can learn more about LENZING’s sustainability practices here.
How Do I Care for Lyocell and Cupro Garments?
Garments made with lyocell and cupro fabric are easy to take care of; in fact, they are machine washable! Make sure that you wash your garment with cold water on a delicate cycle. You can see a full guide for washing cupro pieces– which includes lyocell and cupro garments – from The Laundress here.
If you choose to handwash your garments, sure that you have a gentle soap to wash with; anything too harsh could potentially cause the fabric to fade or wear down. Instead, soak the garment in warm soapy water for 30 minutes.
After washing your garment, either in the machine or by hand, gently wring it out and hanging it to dry; because the fabric is so breathable, it does not take long.
