Planning a wedding is not an easy task. However, a great way to try and eliminate some of the stress from the planning is to choose a theme for the wedding. A theme can reflect the couple’s personality and can simplify choices, like choosing flowers or décor. By making the day about your love for one another rather than about the dress or location, you can focus all your energy on the importance of marriage. Consider our previous blog post of “21 Bachelorette Party Ideas for Every Type of Bride” to steer you in the direction of a related theme that best suits your personality. Let us take you on a journey of wedding theme ideas that we hope will inspire you to create the wedding of your dreams.

Romantic Wedding Theme— The Sweet and Girly Bride:

This bride has been dreaming of her perfect wedding since she was little. She imagines this day to be like a fairy tale wedding. An outdoor venue for the ceremony where her and her partner had one of their first dates would be a romantic location. The bride could use pastel colours for both her décor and bridesmaid dresses to echo the beauty of her location. Perhaps reception held in an old ballroom, a location fit for royalty. As the bride wants to truly feel like a fairytale princess, she desires to look the part. An up-do with a light crown of diamonds and pearls would fit perfectly with her lace long sleeved dress with princess-style skirt.

Rustic Wedding Theme— The Athletic and Outdoorsy Bride:

This bride loves to be outdoors and wants her wedding to reflect her interests. She wants her wedding to be as fun and relaxed as she is. A rustic wedding theme is a great idea for the couple that wants to be surrounded by natural beauty on their special day. The bride could include her active lifestyle as part of her wedding and do a yoga class with her bridal party before getting ready. Possible décor- mason jars with tea lights on the tables and plants instead of flower arrangements. The ceremony is likely to be outdoors, looking at a beautiful view, while the reception may be inside a refurnished barn with fairy lights decorating the ceiling for a rustic and beautiful effect. The bride’s style for the wedding would reflect her theme, effortless, yet chic. She might wear a full-length dress that falls to the floor. Her hair could be styled in a half-up, half-down style with loose curls. Like her hair, the bride would want her makeup to be natural, enhancing her beauty. The bridesmaids could evoke the venue with natural earth and green tones dresses.

Modern Wedding Theme— The Classy City-Chic Bride:

This bride is always organized, well put together and sophisticated. She would want her wedding to reflect her modernity and elegance and stay true to her city style. Her ideal wedding could be held in one of her favourite hotels in the city. The lighting would be the most important element of the décor for her, for a modern and simplistic feel. The colours could be dark, contrasted with metallic with the bridesmaids’ style mirroring the festive celebration by wearing sequin dresses. The bride could wear the new style of wedding dresses: separates instead of a traditional wedding dress. Perhaps a white long-sleeve bodysuit with a full hi-low satin skirt. A unique idea is to accessorize the look with a faux fur collar and statement heels. A sleek up-do hairstyle would definitely accentuate the style of the dress. At midnight, the bride could change into a mini-skirt covered in sequins to leave her party in style!

Vintage Wedding Theme— The Artsy and Creative Bride:

This bride is a creative person who wants to make many of the decorations herself, with a beautiful simplicity that really reflects her and her partner’s. She would want a unique and imaginative wedding, with her own personal touch. Possibly located in a local hall decorated with handmade tablecloths and simple floral arrangements. A charming touch may be a guestbook vintage typewriter, where each guest types a message to the newlywed couple, creating a meaningful memento of the big event. The bride would want each of the bridesmaids to pick their own dresses, from vintage or second-hand stores, resonating the vintage wedding theme. For herself, she may be inspired by the 1920s for her overall look. Her hair could be styled in loose finger waves paired with a beautiful and elegant red lip. The bride wears a simple dress, one that comes just below the knees with cap sleeves, inspired by her grandmother’s wedding dress.

Beach Wedding Theme— The Adventurous Free-Spirited Bride

This bride is adventurous and wants to have a wedding to remember. She loves to have fun and wants her wedding to not only be a celebration of love but also a joyful party for her guests. This bride is free-spirited and loves the idea of a beach wedding, where the guests can experience the sand and surf. After the ceremony takes place on the beach looking out at the water, the guests are welcomed into a seaside hotel for the reception to follow. The décor echoes the location with seashells and ropes and stunning greens everywhere. The bridesmaids are dressed in full-length dresses that match the colour of the sand. The bride’s natural beauty is brought out by her makeup with light colours and shimmering skin. Her hair is down, in loose, beachy curls that fall down her back. The bride could wear a simple, full-length dress with a small train. The top of the dress sits off the shoulder to focus on her beautiful and sun-kissed skin.

Simple Wedding Theme— The Little Bit of Everything Bride:

This bride doesn’t fit into just one theme. She is a bit of everything: romantic, modern, laid back and wants to have fun. As long as this bride is celebrating with her family and friends, that’s all that truly matters to her. She wants to celebrate the person she loves and in a way that looking back on their special day will bring joyful memories. Instead of having a big ceremony this bride might decide to have her special day in an intimate setting, perhaps in her parents’ backyard where she grew up. After the ceremony, the reception could take place in the backyard as well, with a long dining table where everyone can eat family style. Instead of having bridesmaids, the bride could have her girlfriends give a speech together at the reception, letting everyone be a part of the big day. The bride would look beautiful and classic in a tulle skirt and white top separates, a short and fun veil, and a natural-looking hairstyle.
